Original "Starsky & Hutch"® TV
Show Car

Zach says his 1974 Ford Gran Torino "is a clone,
but it's my baby. I bought it with a good friend of mine and I am slowly but surely buying him out. We bought it
from a fellow in Red Deer, Alberta Canada who painted it in his backyard!"
"The funny thing," Zach says, "is that earlier on in the week before purchasing this car, I had
bought myself Seasons 1 and 2 of the original TV show on DVD. After watching a couple episodes from the first season,
I fell in love with Zebra 3. A couple of days later, my friend found our future Zebra 3 in the local classifieds,
and we set up a viewing with the seller that same weekend. Well, when we got there that Saturday I was thinking
to myself, 'OMG OMG OMG OMG!' We paid cash for the car then and there, got the bill of sale signed, and were on
our way home. I tell you, the drive home was one I will never forget. I get on screaming, 'Starsky's Back, but
he's younger!'" |

Zach has made this car quite popular in his city, Edmonton
Alberta, just by driving it a lot in the summer. "I do believe I am the first to have one on the road in a
long time," he says, "so you can imagine people are quite excited to see it drive by - or even just seeing
it parked. I guess the fact that I have naturally curly hair doesn't hurt either!"
The car has its original 351 Windsor. There are a few aftermarket parts added to the motor in order to "wake
it up," including Hooker Competition Headers, a Mid-Grade cam, better pushrods and valves, a 4 barrel carburetor,
MSD Ignition Coil, and K&N Air filter. It is an automatic with a column shifter and cruise control, and has
front and back bench seats like in the first season of the show. Zach has added a CB radio, an original Federal
Signal Tear Drop Police Light, and a Starsky wool sweater.
Zach says he has more plans for this car. He's doing his best to restore it to its original condition.
All of the pictures here were taken and edited by Zach, who has his own photography business. |
