Richard J.'s 1976 Limited Production
"Starsky & Hutch"®Gran Torino®
|
|
|
| Richard is the third owner of this Limited Production
1976 S&H Gran Torino. It was first owned by S&H fan Kevin Ciskowsky in Chicago. Simon C. from Southend
bought it and drove it 1,000 miles to the port in Newark, NJ in 1999, and then waited six weeks for it to arrive
in the UK by boat. |
|
|
| The car is very much as it was the day it left the
factory, and still has its original 351 Windsor 2 bbl engine with only 59,000 original miles on it. It has a Ford
Philco AM/FM Radio and 8-Track player, air conditioning, rear window defroster, deluxe bumper group, tinted glass
and dual color-keyed remote mirrors. It has all of its correct fender tags and DSO numbers to confirm it is one
of the "Starsky & Hutch"®units Ford built in 1976. Previous owner, Simon C., repainted
the car in September of 1999 using Detective Brent's Stripe Kit. |
|
|
The Torino has spent most of its lifetime in storage
and has no rust. Richard has the original owner's manual, and Antonio "Huggy Bear" Fargas has signed
the trunk lid.
The front wheels are polished 14x7 slotted mags, and the rears are 15x81/2. All four have American Racing 5-ear
center caps and chrome mag wheel lug nuts. The front tires are 225/70/14 and the rears are 255/60/15. The car has
also been professionally weathersealed.
The interior has black bucket seats & automatic floor shifter, and all in all the car is in excellent original
condition and runs superbly. |

|
| This 1976 Limited Production Starsky & Hutch®Torino
was used at the S&H movie premiere in London (along with Paul S.'s) and at other promotions for the film in
2004. It was featured on the cover of American Classic magazine in 2000 and again in 2004 (again, with Paul S.'s),
and has been used in TV shows, advertisements, and was a model for the Torino in Empire's Starsky & Hutch®video
game - the car engine sounds you hear in the game were recorded from this car in 2002. |

|
| Richard says, "in 1977 I was 7 years old and watched
"Starsky & Hutch"®every Saturday night. I always wanted Starsky's Gran Torino.
Now, 33 years later I have one. I'm like a little boy again - and my wife thinks I'm nuts! I am not planning to
do too much with the car at this time as I want to keep it 'original.' I have thought that the engine bay needs
work to bring it up to show standards, but I have been persuaded otherwise. Everything is where it should be, it
all works, and still has its original factory paint and so I will just keep it reliable. I love the car, and enjoy
it when it turns heads on trips out - more than anything, I think it's nostalgia. It's a car to be driven, and
not be locked away somewhere." |
