Marcus M.'s 1976 Ford Gran Torino®
"Starsky & Hutch"®Replica
|
|
|
| Marcus has wanted a "striped tomato" since
he was about 7 years old. He says, "I remember my mother would let me stay up late (if I was good) to watch
'Starsky & Hutch.' I would sit there and dream of racing around in that beautiful car one day. Well, that day
finally came about 30 years later!" |
|
|
| "I bought my car in December of 2007 from a guy
in Las Vegas, Nevada. He told me that he bought it from another guy in California who had given it the "Starsky"
treatment. It originally had a vinyl top and was painted a different shade of red. He told me that he intended
to restore the car but things got in the way so he decided to sell it. We made our deal and before I left he warned
me that I would get a lot of attention out on the road. I figured that I might get some but I had no idea to what
degree. On the way home from Vegas (about a four hour drive) people were honking, flashing their lights, and giving
the 'thumbs up.' He wasn't kidding!" |
|
|
| "Well, a lot of work had to be done and I couldn't
wait to start. First thing I did was buff out the paint weekend after weekend to bring back the depth and shine.
The paint had not been taken care of very well. It was pretty dull. As money permitted, I replaced the seats, seatbelts,
the entire dash, instrument panel, carpet, glass, mirrors, grille, tail lights, front and rear bumpers, new tires,
polished the wheels, you name it. I also had the engine completely rebuilt and repainted. She's got a 351M with
a 4 barrel Holley Street Avenger Carb, Edelbrock Intake Manifold, FMX transmission, dual Flowmaster exhaust with
3" pipes. I also had a Custom Autosound stereo installed." |
|
|
| "There's still so much to do before I'll be satisfied,"
Marcus says, "but with time and patience I'll get there. I've never done this with a car before and I've got
to say that it's so much fun! This car will be part of our family for many years to come." |
