Fabrice G.'s 1974 Ford Gran Torino®
"Starsky & Hutch"®Replica

As a lot of young boys in the '80s, Fabrice was fascinated
with the big red car with the white stripe he saw in the "Starsky & Hutch"©TV
show that he watched on Sunday afternoons on French TV. Many years later, he thought it was time to make his dream
come true.
In 2008, Fabrice found this car on eBay. There were many Torinos for sale at the time, and this one was the closest
to what he was looking for and for the price he wanted to pay. Tom, the seller, kindly organized the shipment and
export of the car to France. Fabrice got the car in February, 2009. |

The car was originally a brown Gran Torino with opera
windows and vinyl roof. Fabrice believes it has the original engine. He had an AOD transmission installed and the
shifter was moved from steering column to the floor. When Fabrice received the car, it was already painted red
and the opera window were covered. The car had some mechanic and cosmetic problems he had to fix. I took two years
to get the car as it looks in these pictures, but the car was good condition overall, and Fabrice was able to drive
it right away. He had the usual engine and transmission leaks, both on the rear and front main seal, some electrical
had to be redone, and interior parts had to be changed. Other than that, Fabrice says, the car needed only some
TLC and a little bit of time.
Fabrice's idea was to make a nice TV show tribute car, with the final touches being the famous red light, the Motorola
radio and speaker, Starsky's cardigan, and SL76 slotted mags. |

Fabrice says the TV show and the Torino was and still
is very popular in France, and each time he's on the road with it, people point and say, "Look, Starsky and
Hutch's car!"
Fabrice hopes to keep the car a long time. He says, "It's really nice and reliable, and I think after the
work I've done on it I finally love it for what it is and represents." |
