Carl S.'s Limited Production 1976
"Starsky & Hutch"®Ford Gran Torino®

|
| Carl has owned this S&H Torino for about 20 years.
In 1987, it was in a six car pile-up and was considered totaled. It sat for 4 or 5 years because Carl "refused
to let it go out like that," and with the help of a friend who specializes in doing bodywork on "totaled"
cars, he slowly pieced it back together. In 1997, the restoration was put on hold, but Carl recently made a promise
to himself that restoration is back on! |

| For the most part, Carl says, the car is stock with
a few minor upgrades. It came with a 460 which was rebuilt in the early 1990s. Carl had the blocked bored .030
over and had the heads ported, and added an Edelbrock 750 carb. He also found some 429 Cobra Jet cast iron exhaust
manifolds at Carlisle and put those on in place of the stock manifolds. The transmission has also been rebuilt,
a shift kit has been installed, and the stock 2.75 rear was changed to a 3.70. |

|
| The front seats are buckets from a Gran Torino Elite.
Carl says he likes those seats because passenger and driver side both have their own arm rest. The car came with
A/C, AM/FM 8-track, rear window defrost, shift on the column, factory dual exhaust, and 120 amp alternator. Carl
has replaced the entire dash because the previous owner wasn't very careful when it came to putting in the aftermarket
radio, which Carl has removed. Come back again someday for new pictures and information as work on this classic
continues! |
